Birgitte Støvring - exhibition "Genklang"

Exhibition at Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon.

Visual artist Birgitte Støvring is originally from West Jutland for many generations and has returned to Jutland after years in Copenhagen. Her range of subjects has changed with the change of residence and she now works with a figure in her series of paintings she calls ‘The Gardener’, referring to her mother's family, which long ago consisted of gardeners.
The figures in her paintings are linked to stories about her grandmother, whom Birgitte Støvring has turned into a new version of the Greek goddess Demeter, guardian of the earth's fertility.
In Støvring's paintings, there are dozens of vases that can transport life-giving water, as well as poppies that stand strong and glow red, reminiscent of childhood ditchside flowers - both fragile and strong.
With these works, Støvring wants to create new stories and connections that draw on mythological tales, but also on personal experiences. She works with goddesses from Nordic and Greek mythology and will be working with the surrounding landscape and the family that lived there in Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon.
Birgitte Støvring (b.1982) holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2002-2008) and has received several grants and scholarships from the Danish Arts Foundation and other foundations.
