Summer vacation activities at the Fisheries and Maritime Museum

Visit the museum during the summer vacation and experience a wealth of activities! You can experience introductions, seal and fish feedings, get creative and go on a "Voyage with Johannes"

Introduction to the exhibitions at the Fisheries and Maritime Museum
Get an introduction to our exhibitions with a museum guide. This weekend you can get an introduction to:

The Saltwater Aquarium - 12:00 o'clock
With its 150,000 litres of salt water, the Saltwater Aquarium takes you on a journey through the Danish seas. The tour starts on the shore and goes down to the depths of the sea at the bottom of the North Sea.

Denmark’s Incredible Fishing Venture - 13:45 o'clock
The exhibition opened in 2018, the 150th anniversary of the founding of Esbjerg Harbour. Get the story of Esbjerg Harbour's genesis and the industry that helped create Esbjerg. The exhibition features portraits of some of the people of Esbjerg who took to the waves of the sea.

Introductions take place in the foyer.

Fish feeding
At 13:00 o'clock you can watch as our facilitators select one of the aquariums in the aquarium hall and feed the animals in it. During the feeding they will tell you a bit about the aquarium, the animals in it and what they are fed - and of course you are welcome to ask questions if you are a bit more curious about the animals in the aquarium.

Seal training
At 11:00 and 14:30 o'clock
you can experience the daily seal trainings where you get up close to the seals being trained and fed. At the same time, you will hear good stories and information about the seals from our educators. The stories are told in both Danish and English.

We train our seals several times a day, so they get active and get exercise. It is important for us to train the seals so that they are comfortable with us handling them in our daily work of keeping them healthy.

Draw your view in KreaLab
From 11:00 - 17:00 you can draw your view in KreaLab.
Imagine you've boarded Esbjerg's last fishing boat, E1 Claus Sørensen, and before long you're heading out. You quickly feel the wind in your hair and feel the cutter's engine shaking the deck beneath your feet. You turn the wheel to steer out of Esbjerg harbor and look out the wheelhouse window.

What do you see?

Is the sun shining, is the sea full of mermaids, pirates or sea serpents? Is a storm brewing? Or are you looking forward to a fun summer vacation? It's all up to you - it's your view.

Take "On a voyage with Johannes"
Families with children now have a unique opportunity to take to the sea with the Fisheries and Maritime Museum's fishing cutter, E1 Claus Sørensen, when we set sail from Esbjerg Strand.
Along the way, the cutter will be transformed into a sailing backdrop as we tell the story of 16-year-old Johannes, who goes on his first voyage as a cook boy in the 1940s. We follow Johannes into the fishing port, out into the open sea and to Skallingen, where we can see seals if we're lucky. While sailing, there will also be the opportunity to explore below deck and try different activities that are part of the life of a fisherman.

On a cruise with Johannes is aimed at families with children between the ages of six and 14.
