Knud Brix will talk about
Nature’s Own Boys – Kaj Munk and the Hunt
Kaj Munk was not a hunter from childhood, yet he became a brilliant hunting writer who
understood the essence of hunting like few others. His eminent depictions of nature and descriptions of
his hunting companions came to life beautifully in the books “Liv og glade Dage” and “Nature’s Own Boys”
and a series of hunting letters. Knud Brix will discuss Munk’s hunting ethics, his defence of killing and
the significance of nature in his writing.
Ida Gammelmark will speak about
When God fell in love with a peasant girl – Kaj Munk and the Madonna figure
Female figures of love feature prominently in Kaj Munk’s universe. Even in his early
writings, he focuses on the woman as the giver of love – a theme that runs through
his entire body of work. Ida Gammelmark discusses the so-called Madonna figure in Munk’s
drama: a female character with roots in both theology and literary tradition. Drawing on
Ibsen, Kierkegaard and Munk’s own texts, she demonstrates how this overlooked figure can
shed new light on his poetry.
