33 international sculptors from all over the world have created the longest sand sculpture wall in the world: 200 metres long and 7 metres high, plus free-standing sand sculptures up to 10.4 metres high.
The Sand Sculpture Festival in Søndervig is an annual event that attracts artists and visitors from all over the world. Located on the coast of West Jutland, just outside the charming seaside resort of Søndervig, the festival is a spectacular display of impressive sand sculptures that combine art, nature and craftsmanship in a unique way.
The festival takes place from May to October and gives visitors the opportunity to experience world-class sand art. The themes of the sand sculptures vary from year to year and range from historical events and mythology to pop culture and the wonders of nature. Artists from different countries participate and create gigantic sculptures, some up to 7 metres tall, using tons of sand and amazing skill.
The creative process starts weeks before the opening, where the artists work intensively with the sand. Each sculpture begins as a large pile of sand, which is slowly transformed into detailed figures and scenery. These artworks are created using only sand and water, making their level of detail and durability even more impressive.
In addition to the exhibition itself, the festival also offers activities for both children and adults. For the youngest visitors, there are often special areas where they can try building their own sandcastles and sculptures.
The sand sculpture festival in Søndervig is not only a celebration of sand art, but also a cultural event that creates a sense of community among participants and visitors. The unique combination of art and natural materials in a relaxed summer atmosphere makes the festival an unforgettable experience for all ages. Every year it transforms the beautiful West Jutland coast into a magical world of sand and creativity, making it a must-see for locals and tourists alike.
The Sand Sculpture Festival can be experienced every day from 10:00 to 18:00 from the opening in May through August.
In September and October the opening hours are 10.00 - 17.00.
