Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon

The West Jutland Art Pavilion in Videbæk is a large and magnificent work of art in its own right. Like a beautiful swan, this white building sits by the lake shore in the park Lystanlægget. Indeed it was Henning Larsen's world famous architectural firm, that designed the building.

Henning Larsen (1925-2013) was born in Opsund just west of Videbæk. He grew up to be a famous architect responsible for famous buildings all over the world, among others the Danish Foreign Ministry, and the Danish Embassy in Saudi Arabia, Malmø State Library, and in Denmark the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, and the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen - and finally the West Jutland Art Pavillion in Videbæk.

A successful cooperation 

The building The West Jutland Art Pavilion was built in 2012 thanks to public and private contributors and the many ardent locals, who worked together on the project. A large group of volunteers makes sure that you can buy coffee and cake at the cozy café, where you can enjoy the view of the park and the lake, after you have seen the exhibitions. 

The West Jutland Art Pavilion has changing exhibitions, concerts, and lectures. The works of sculptor Jens Lund and architect Henning Larsen, who are both connected to Videbæk, are on permanent exhibition in the pavilion. See the museum’s opening hours here. 

A museum with growing pains

In 2015, Arne Haugen-Sørensen exhibited his works at the museum. He became so fascinated with the place, that he offered donating 80 paintings, if they promised to build a museum for them. Then the good people of Videbæk came together and the new addition became a reality. 

- Getting your own museum is like coming home, said Arne Haugen-Sørensen, when the decision to build him a museum had been made.  

In september 2017 the museum was opened and Videbæk added another cultural attraction to their town.
