WEST COAST CULTURE – Art and Cultural Heritage

What is West Coast culture? According to artist Agnete Brinch, West Coast culture is important above all because it is about roots, cultural heritage and people. The culture of the North Sea coast brings both a sense of calm and depth to her art. It provides a strong foundation for her as an artist.

Agnete Brinch has her own studio in Blåvand, and choosing to pursue a career in art was a dream come true. Her own journey has also inspired her to offer some advice to others who have dreams they want to pursue and turn into reality.

“Take one step at a time and don’t think of it as being unattainable. Take one step every day and break your dream down into smaller parts. Before you know it, you’ll be there – and it’s fantastic.”

There is no doubt that following your dreams takes courage. That is why Agnete Brinch has reached out to a number of people whom she sees as having shown courage. She can see something of herself in them and draw inspiration from them. Ultimately, these encounters become works of art shaped by Agnete Brinch’s creative process.

“I study courage, and I become a little braver myself every time I talk to someone who is courageous.”

Agnete Brinch is not only a visual artist who has achieved both national and international recognition. She is also the co-organiser of the exhibition and has her artistic work in her own workshop in Blåvand. It is from her hand that we have "Shadows in sand", which is the signature poster for "First There Is A Mountain". An image that is in line with her major art project WOMEN CHANGING THE WORLD. The large collection of portraits features both historical and contemporary female role models such as Karen Blixen, Anna Ancher, Susanne Brøgger and Magrethe Vestager.
