Around the old market town of Ringkøbing, you’ll find three of West Jutland’s most beautiful show gardens. Experience nature with all your senses
Experience nature with all your senses in The Garden of Wonder (Forundringens Have), discover 1,700 varieties of hostas at Enemærkets Hostahave, breathe in the fragrance of thousands of roses at Laubjergs Rosenhave, and treat yourself to local delights from Gårdbageren in Velling – all within easy cycling distance from Ringkøbing.
The charm of Ringkøbing, with its cobblestone streets and old-world atmosphere, sets the scene for this scenic route.
The first part of the journey follows Ringkøbing Fjord as you head out toward the small town of Velling.
Just north of Velling, you’ll find The Garden of Wonder (Forundringens Have). This ecological and biodynamic demonstration garden is part of Vestjyllands Højskole and serves as a place for experimentation and learning. Here you’ll discover various themed areas: a cooperative orchard, an orangery, a herb garden, an astronomical garden, a market garden, and more. Explore sensory paths, taste edible flowers, and visit the insect hotel in this beautiful natural oasis. Free admission and an organic shop available.
The route continues toward Enemærkets Hostahave. On the way, you can take a break at Gårdbageren, a charming countryside bakery and café. This small family-run business had to reinvent itself after the closure of the mink industry in Denmark in 2020. Today, you can enjoy a wide range of delicious homemade treats and a great cup of coffee in their cozy café—or bring some goodies along for the ride.
Enemærkets Hostahave is home to Denmark’s largest private collection of hostas. The garden presents an impressive 1,700 different varieties, alongside rose beds and daylilies—and a carpet of anemones early in the season. Wander through the wilder woodland garden under tall trees, follow the more manicured garden paths, or relax by the fishing pond or the picnic shelter.
Next, the route heads north to Laubjergs Rosenhave, Vesterhavs Mosteriet (cider mill), and the TONOW Distillery.
Laubjergs Rosenhave is a 10,000 m² rose paradise with over 5,000 rose plants. Constantly changing and blooming, the garden offers a unique sensory journey with every visit—full of scent, colour, and tranquillity. Connected to the garden and nursery are their own orchards, supplying fruit to Vesterhavs Mosteriet and the distillery, where they produce the flavourful Vesterhavsmost (apple juice) from various apple varieties, along with apple wine, brandy, schnapps, liqueurs, and more.
From Laubjergs Rosenhave, the route loops back to Ringkøbing.
End your trip with a refreshing drink or a delicious meal at one of Ringkøbing’s many cafés or restaurants.
Enjoy your ride!
